Absolutely agree that we need to save pubs - something uniquely British - but I think we need to consider why they have gone out of fashion, how to make them appealing to non-drinkers, how we might make the spaces multi-functional so that for instance in the mornings they could be used for youth events or other community events…just like the local shop, villages need the local pub as an important community hub - which in particular lends to supporting intergenerational connection
I think you're right. They have a social value but will only survive if they are economically viable. The Rose and Crown is interesting as accommodation and hosting the village shop will be part of the offer. But the youth in villages and elsewhere need places to meet - and this would be both socially and economically positive with the right offer.
